The name Agumbe conjures up the visions of heavy rain, mist filled days, serene, spiritual ambience, tucked away in the midst of  ever green rain forest range, a paradise for soul searchers, who seek to redeem their spiritual pursuits.

Agumbe is hill station well known as Chirapunji of south because of its heavy rain fall (approx 8000mm per year), pleasant weather (average 20 * C) throughout the year, its rich flora and fauna, and serene ambience.

Immortalized by the famous tele-serial “ Malgudi Days” based on Famous author R.K.Narayan’s  stories “ Malgudi Days” Agumbe fits the bill of a typical sleepy little village.

The enchanting hills, the mist filled monsoon days, the thick rain forests and the pleasant weather of a hill station makes it a heaven for nature lovers.

Agumbe is a high point in the agenda of adventure seekers, trekkers, nature explorers not only across the nation, but across the global spectrum itself. It is also well known  for its sunset view point, lovely cascading waterfalls – jogi gundi, Barkana and Onake abbe and attracts tourists from far and near. Having been declared as one of the ecologically sensitive world heritage Western Ghats range; Agumbe attracts researchers from the different parts of the world.

No wonder, the famous herpetologist Romulous Whitaker who mesmerized the world by researching the lives of great King Cobras,set up the world’s first King Cobra Research Centre at Agumbe.- by name ARRS ( Agumbe Rain Forest Research Station).
